Where is New Cross located?
New Cross is in south London, less than 5 miles south of Charing Cross, with an SE14 postcode. Just south of the river, it sits at the centre of the Peckham-Camberwell-Deptford triangle and this whole area is slowly but surely becoming trendier with more on and to see and do every week. St John’s is directly to the east, Brockley to the south and Nunhead to the west.

This is considered a safe area of London to live and spend time in – the most danger here comes as a result of the heavy traffic levels, so be careful crossing the roads! The population here is primarily students and young professionals, so even at night you’ll find plenty of other people around and needn’t feel isolated or alone.
What type of people live in New Cross?
New Cross attracts quite a young population; many young professionals and students flock here for the spacious houses and the proximity to some of the city’s top universities (e.g Goldsmiths’s) and colleges. There are also still families living in the big houses that haven’t been split into flats or house shares, and several of these offer homestays to make some extra money out of their spare bedrooms. Schools are good here, so families with children find it to be the ideal base for capital living.

What transport links does New Cross offer?
There’s no missing it – the big A2 road splits right through the middle of the neighbourhood and is a major route in and out of the capital. For public transport, New Cross is served by two rail stations; New Cross and New Cross Gate. Both serve the London Underground and both are on the mainline. New Cross services mainline rail with Southeastern, running from Charing Cross or Cannon Street all the way south to Dartford in Kent. New Cross Gate hosts services by Southern, north to London Bridge and south to Victoria, East Croydon, Gatwick Airport and Sussex.
The road infrastructure here lends itself nicely to a range of bus and coach services, and you’ll never be far from a black cab or minicab, should you need one.
What is there to do in New Cross?
New Cross is tipped for greatness, and the ‘buzz’ around the place is growing all the time. You may need to cross the road to find attractions and amenities, but you don’t need to venture out to find plenty to do!
Spent time in the great outdoors at Telegraph Hill Park
This beautiful outdoor green space offers great views, tennis courts available for hire, a skate park (perfect for spectating if not skating yourself!) and a café for refreshments. In the spring and summer, you’ll find a range of free outdoor events and entertainment happening here, so the space works great for day to night hang-outs.
Take in some culture at the Albany Theatre
The Albany Theatre dates back to the 1800s and since the 1970s, has acted as a performing arts centre and hosts a range of theatre, music, spoken word, comedy and dance.
