Tips for Muslim Students in London

When you’re travelling abroad to study in a foreign country, it can be overwhelming and a daunting prospect. There are probably multiple things running through your mind, such as…

  • Will I like the city?
  • Will my course be a good fit?
  • Will I make friends easily?
  • Did I pack the right things?

The last thing we want students to be worried about when visiting the UK to study, is their accommodation choice. And we know when you’re religious and you have slightly different requirements than other students, this can often be a big concern.

The good news? Our homestay accommodation is a fantastic choice for all students, of all religions, because our hosts are friendly, welcoming and accommodating.

First of all, What is a Homestay?

A homestay is different to living in halls of accommodation, where you most likely won’t know anyone. With homestay accommodation, students stay in the homes of “host families” in London, and become part of the home for the duration of their stay.

As a homestay student, you’ll have a local host with insider knowledge to share, and also friendly faces to come home to each evening after class or after socialising. It’s a great way to experience the local culture, and it’s a fantastic way to make lifelong friends.

Are Homestays Suitable for Muslim Students?

Absolutely. In fact, we’ve had many muslim students stay in our homestay accommodation. The main consideration for you, if you’re a muslim students who has chosen a catered plan, is probably going to be ensuring you have access to halal food. This will always be communicated to your host (who will be providing the food) and so they will be aware of your requirements and welcoming of them. Lots of our hosts are experienced sourcing and cooking halal food, so you’ll be in good hands.

For many muslim students, they like the idea of living with a muslim family who will be able to share their faith. This is also possible with homestay, and we have many muslim hosts who are registered with us, and love having muslim students staying with them.

If you have any questions or concerns about your religion in the context of homestay accommodation, then please just get in touch. We’re always happy to answer any of your queries and concerns, and (most importantly) put your mind at ease.
